Yoga: Holistic Healing for Medical Conditions

With Chrys Kub, eRYT500, Physical Therapist, Instructor Teacher Training 

The body-mind connection is integral in the healing of chronic medical conditions. Many of your yoga students will come with conditions such as Cardiovascular Disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, High Blood Pressure, Fibromyalgia, Cancer or Diabetes. (see below for full listing of conditions covered)  These conditions benefit greatly from the practice of yoga, however it is important as an instructor that you understand precautions and specific practices to address these issues. This module will provide you with a foundational knowledge of these conditions and how to modify and enhance the yoga practice for your students affected by these specific conditions. Yoga as Medicine is divided into three  weekend immersions (Part I,  II and III).  Below is an outline of what will be covered in each immersion.  They do not have to be taken in sequential order.  Recommended (but not required)  prior to enrolling in this immersion:  200 Hour RYT, Restorative Yoga, Structural Anatomy of Yoga, Iyengar Yoga.

Yoga As Medicine: Part 1

  • Overview of the Holistic Health Approach
  • Neuro-emotional Web / Relation to Disease or DIS-ease
  • 8 Step Wellness Plan / Tools of Yoga
  • Breathing / Pranayama in Healing
  • Rest and Relaxation: Yoga Nidra, Progressive Relaxation Techniques
  • Asana Prescription/Sequencing
  • Medical Conditions Covered: Anxiety/Depression, Chronic Pain Syndromes including Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain (low back pain etc), and Chronic Neuropathic Pain.
  • Group Yoga Therapy Curriculum and Process for these populations

Yoga As Medicine: Part II

  • Review/Overview of Holistic Health Approach
  • Medical Conditions Covered: Cardiovascular Disease, Respiratory Disorders, Digestive Disorders and Diabetes
  • Group Yoga Therapy Curriculum and Process for these populations

Yoga as Medicine:  Part III

  • Review/Overview of Holistic Health Approach
  • Medical Conditions Covered:  Neurological Disorders:  Parkinson's disease,  Cerebrovascular Accident (stroke), Traumatic Brain Injury,  Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis
  • Group Yoga Therapy Curriculum and Process for these populations

Required Materials: Yoga Mat, 10′ Yoga Strap, 4” Yoga Block

Chrys Kub, PT, ERYT 500 has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 10 years, and training yoga instructors throughout the US in therapeutic yoga.  She has studied with many of the masters in therapeutic yoga including Mukunda Stiles, Doug Keller, Susie Aldous Hately, and Leeann Carey. Chrys is a practicing physical therapist and yoga therapist, Program Director for Holistic Yoga Therapy Institute and a Member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She has taught and inspired yoga teachers throughout the US focusing on how to expand the therapeutic benefits of yoga for both themselves and their students. Through her trainings, Chrys will show both the student and the teacher how to observe themselves and their students, honoring each person’s unique capabilities and limitations, enabling aspiring teachers to create both their personal practice and style of teaching. Join Chrys, to further develop and explore your unique practice.

This workshop is for ALL LEVELS.
