Adaptive Yoga for Disabilities

With Chrys Kub, eRYT500, Physical Therapist, Instructor Teacher Training

Persons with physical disabilities have a unique challenge in being present in their body, whether their disability is long standing or from a traumatic event.  This immersion will help you learn how to adapt yoga practices for people with disabilities to help them discover the benefits of the mind body relationship and how that can enhance their quality of life.  You will learn the physical expressions of neurological diseases and trauma which may cause physical disabilities and their manifestations.  Persons who have suffered a traumatic head injury, spinal cord injury or CVA not only are impacted by the physical expression of their trauma, but by the emotional and psychological impact.  We explore which yoga tools are effective in helping these persons experience the practice of yoga and in turn to improve the quality of their lives.

During this immersion, we will have the opportunity to observe and participate as assistants in yoga practices with persons with physical disabilites.  You will develop the knowledge of what it takes to lead a yoga practice on all levels and how to help the students experience the power of yoga in their lives.

The following areas will be covered:

  • Overview of Adapting Yoga for Disabilities and how the mind affects perspective
